What is the difference between customs and border service?

Customs and border service are different agencies with different tasks. Customs controls items and goods: checks luggage for prohibited items, monitors compliance with rules for transporting alcohol, cigarettes, or valuable items. And the border service checks documents and identities of travelers: passports, visas, insurances, child authorizations, and debt status. In Russia, border guards are part of the FSB, while customs belongs to the Federal Customs Service. Confusion between them often arises because they work side by side at the border, but their functions are completely different.
