Distinguishing Arabica from Robusta is quite simple by the shape of the beans. Robusta beans are almost round, with a smooth cut in the middle, while Arabica beans are elongated, oblong, with an uneven cut resembling the letter S. This will help you avoid overpaying if the seller tries to pass off one variety as another.

In Vietnam, Robusta is mainly grownβ€”it is more bitter and contains twice as much caffeine as Arabica. Arabica is considered more refined, but it is more expensive and less common. Coffee is often sold as blends, which, according to connoisseurs, is even better than pure varieties.

When buying, pay attention not only to the shape but also to the price: Arabica is usually 30% more expensive than Robusta. If you see suspiciously cheap 'Arabica', it is most likely Robusta or a blend.
