An electronic cigarette contains a battery, and many airlines now prohibit carrying any batteries or accumulators in checked luggage. Therefore, you cannot check an assembled 'e-cig' in luggage; it must be transported in carry-on baggage. Theoretically, of course, you could remove the battery or accumulator from the device, pack the device in checked luggage, and carry the battery in your carry-on or pocket, but this depends on your technical skills and the device itself, i.e., whether you can disassemble it. So in practice, it's easier to simply put it in your carry-on and transport it on the plane without any problems.

Of course, you can read completely opposite opinions from bloggers and reviews, saying that you can only carry it in checked luggage because 'I carried it, and there were no problems.' But we explained above how to transport it according to the rules, not how you might luckily get it through with the hope that no one will notice.

Also, don't forget that there are bans on importing electronic cigarettes into some countries. For example, it is currently prohibited to bring e-cigs into Thailand and Vietnam. Moreover, it doesn't matter at all where you are carrying them, in checked luggage or carry-on, since the ban is not for transport on the plane but for import into the country. That is, no one will forbid you from carrying an e-cig on a plane to Thailand, but if it is discovered upon entry into the country, it will be confiscated and you will be penalized.
