How is the border crossing in Psou with children? Are there queues?

According to our experience, crossing the border in Psou with children is not as scary as it seems. There are queues in summer, but Abkhazian border guards are usually loyal to families β if the child is small, they may let you through without queuing.
On the Russian side, when leaving the Russian Federation, documents are strictly checked: surnames are verified, and they may ask for a power of attorney if the child is not traveling with parents. We always carry the original birth certificate with us. If you are traveling by car, be prepared to get out of the car on the Russian side for passport control, while on the Abkhazian side they check directly in the car.
The main thing is to arrange all documents in advance so that you can quickly retrieve them. Our personal experience and life hacks are in the article Entering Abkhazia with children in 2026.
