No, there is no sea or beaches for swimming in Bangkok itself. The capital of Thailand is located about 30 kilometers from the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, so you won't find sandy beaches or the opportunity to swim in the sea here. However, this does not make the city less attractive for tourists.

Bangkok is a huge metropolis with a population of over 9 million people, famous for its skyscrapers, temples, markets, and vibrant nightlife. If you dream of a beach holiday, it's better to plan a trip to the coast right away, and leave Bangkok for exploring culture and attractions. The only way to swim in the city is in hotel rooftop pools, which are available in many modern hotels.

Don't be upset if you didn't find the sea in Bangkok. However, it is very easy and quick to get from the city to the nearest beach resorts. Here are some popular destinations for a day trip:

  • Pattaya — the most popular resort, reachable by bus in 2 hours.
  • Hua Hin — a more peaceful and aristocratic resort, the journey takes about 3 hours.
  • Cha-am — a quiet beach town near Hua Hin.
  • Bang Saen — the closest beach to the capital, just an hour's drive away.
  • Si Racha — a port city with decent beaches.

So if you want to combine sightseeing in Bangkok with a beach holiday, it's quite possible. You can stay in the capital for a couple of days, see the main attractions, and then head to one of the nearby resorts. Or vice versa — fly to Bangkok, spend time here at the end of your trip, buy souvenirs, and fly home.

By the way, Bangkok itself is an incredibly interesting city. Here you will find magnificent Buddhist temples such as the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, huge shopping malls, colorful street markets, and the famous nightlife on Khao San Road. Two to three days are usually enough to see the main attractions, but if you wish, you can stay for a week — you definitely won't get bored.
