When entering Thailand under the visa-free regime (up to 60 days), you may be asked to confirm sufficient funds. Although this is rarely checked, it is better to be prepared. There are no official strict figures, but the Thai consulate recommends an amount of 20,000 baht per person or 40,000 baht per family in any currency (even in rubles at the current exchange rate).

Important note: Bank statements or money on a card are not accepted. You must show cash. If you are traveling with a family, the total amount for all must be at least 40,000 baht.

For citizens of CIS countries entering on a Visa on Arrival, the requirements are slightly different: you must have financial means equivalent to at least 10,000 baht per person (over 12 years old) or 20,000 baht per family.

Approximate amount of cash for entering Thailand per person and per family in different currencies
Currency Per person (from 20,000 THB) Per family (from 40,000 THB)
?? US Dollar (USD) 620 USD 1,240 USD
?? Euro (EUR) 530 EUR 1,060 EUR
?? British Pound (GBP) 460 GBP 920 GBP
?? Chinese Yuan (CNY) 4,170 CNY 8,340 CNY
?? Japanese Yen (JPY) 96,000 JPY 192,000 JPY
?? Won (KRW) 917,000 KRW 1,834,000 KRW
?? Singapore Dollar (SGD) 785 SGD 1,570 SGD
?? Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) 2,435 MYR 4,870 MYR
?? Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) 10,810,000 IDR 21,620,000 IDR
?? Russian Ruble (RUB) 46,000 RUB 92,000 RUB

The exchange rate may change, recalculate using the calculator on the page about Thai currency for tourists.

In addition to cash, during visa-free entry, they may selectively check for return tickets or tickets to a third country. There are no requirements for mandatory insurance or hotel booking, but from May 1, 2025, all tourists must fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online in advance at tdac.immigration.go.th.
