Using tuk-tuks (songthaews) in Pattaya is easy if you know a few rules. They are not buses, but pickup trucks with a covered body and two benches. Here's how it works:

• Boarding: To stop the vehicle, simply wave your hand to the driver. You can board anywhere where stopping is allowed.
• Payment: Pay the driver in the cabin through the window when exiting. The standard price during the day is 15-20 baht. If more is needed, the driver will tell you.
• Exiting: To get off, press the bell button inside the body. The driver will stop at any convenient place.
• Main rule: Before boarding, be sure to ask the driver where he is going. If you just get into a parked vehicle and name your hotel, you will be taken as a taxi, but for 100-200 baht.
