Yes, in Sharm el-Sheikh there are several places where you can enjoy snorkeling for free without buying a tour or paying for beach entry. The main thing is to have your own mask and snorkel.

Here are the best free locations:

  • Alex Beach (also known as Military Beach): This is perhaps the most popular free spot. It is located at the exit of Sharm el-Maya Bay. The beach is wild, without sunbeds and umbrellas, but with good access to the coral reef right off the shore.
  • Hotel beaches: If you are staying at a hotel, do not rush to look for other places. Many hotel beaches have rocky areas with corals and fish. Just snorkel along the shore β€” often you can see a lot of interesting things there.
  • Wild beaches in El Fanar and Nabq Bay areas: In these areas, there are sections of the coast not belonging to hotels where you can enter the water. However, be careful: entry may be uncomfortable, and corals may be closer to the surface.

Important tip: If you want to guarantee seeing a rich underwater world, it is still better to spend a little money and go to a paid beach (for example, in Ras Um Sid Bay) or, even better, on a tour. On free beaches, corals may be less vibrant and fish fewer.
