In Abkhazia, traffic violations are treated strictly, especially for drivers with foreign license plates. The main difference from Russia is that speeding is penalized already when exceeding the limit by 10 km/h, not 20. That is, if the limit is 60 km/h, you can drive at most 69 km/h.

Here are the main fines in rubles for 2026:

  • Exceeding speed by 10-30 km/h — 600-1800 rubles.
  • Exceeding speed by more than 30 km/h — 1800-3000 rubles or referral to retake the exam.
  • Running a red light — 1800-3000 rubles.
  • Crossing a solid line — 1800-3000 rubles.
  • No insurance — 1800 rubles.
  • Driving without a license or vehicle registration — 300 rubles.
  • Driving under the influence — 4800-6000 rubles or license suspension up to 2 years, or arrest up to 15 days.

Important point: for any violation, your license may be confiscated on the spot. You can get it back only after paying the fine at the traffic police department of the district where you were stopped. It is impossible to pay the fine via bank or internet, so inspectors often offer to "resolve the issue on the spot." Be careful and do not violate recklessly, looking at local drivers — for tourists, the rules are enforced in full force.
