A trip to the Old Market (El Dahar Bazar) in Hurghada is an interesting but specific experience. Whether it is worth visiting depends on what you are looking for.

It is worth going if:

  • You want to see the real, non-touristy life of Egypt and feel the local atmosphere.
  • You are interested in everyday goods rather than souvenirs: groceries, cheap clothes and shoes, household items.
  • You are a confident traveler, not afraid of chaos, noise, and ready to bargain actively.

Better to choose another place if:

  • You are primarily looking for souvenirs and tourist goods. There are few of them at the Old Market, and it is inconvenient to search.
  • Comfort and peace are important to you. The market can be crowded, noisy, and not very clean.
  • You do not like being pestered. Although the market is aimed at locals, tourists may also be actively called over.
  • You are traveling with small children — it may be too tiring for them.

Tip: If you decide to go, be sure to bargain if the price is not on the tag. Start with an offer 2-3 times lower than the stated amount. And remember that there are no organized excursions there — you need to get there on your own by taxi or minibus.

For standard tourist shopping, Sheraton Street, Cleopatra Bazar shops, or large malls like SenzoMall are better suited.
