How to get to Kilim Geopark on Langkawi independently?

You can get to Kilim Geopark independently, but it will require a bit more effort and usually costs more than a group tour. You will need to first get to one of the piers and then rent a boat for the tour.
1. Get to the pier. The geopark is located in the eastern part of the island. There are two main piers where tours start:
- Kilim Geoforest Park Jetty — the main and most popular pier.
- Tanjung Rhu Mangrove Jetty — located near the beach of the same name.
2. Choose transportation to the pier:
- Taxi (Grab): The most convenient option. A trip from popular beaches like Cenang/Tengah will cost about 60 ringgit ($13) one way.
- Renting a motorbike or car: A more flexible option. Motorbike rental starts from 35 ringgit ($7.5) per day, car rental — from 100 ringgit ($21) per day. The roads on Langkawi are good, and navigation is easy.
3. Rent a boat at the pier. You cannot walk around the park on your own — visits are only possible on official geopark boats with a guide. The cost of renting a boat entirely (capacity 8-10 people):
- 2-hour tour: 350 ringgit (about $74) per boat.
- 3-hour tour: 450 ringgit (about $95) per boat.
For most tourists, it is still easier and often cheaper to buy a ready-made tour with transfer. For more details on all options, prices, and our personal tips, read our detailed guide: Mangrove tour to Kilim Geopark (Kilim Geoforest Park): how to visit, prices 2026, is it worth going.
