To visit the Perfume Pagoda from Hanoi, you need to allocate a full day — from early morning until evening. The journey there and back takes up most of the time.
Here is an approximate schedule for the trip:
- 8:00 — 10:30/11:00: Departure from Hanoi and travel by bus/taxi to the pier in My Duc city (60 km, 2-3 hours considering traffic).
- 11:00 — 11:40: Transfer to a boat and sailing along the river to the entrance of the temple complex (about 40 minutes).
- 11:40 — 14:00: Walk through the lower temples, market, lunch.
- 14:00 — 15:30: Ascent to the main cave pagoda (about an hour's walk one way or by cable car — a few minutes) and viewing.
- 15:30 — 19:00: Return journey: descent, boat to the pier, bus/taxi to Hanoi.
Thus, most of the time is spent on travel and logistics. Only 3-4 hours remain for viewing the complex and the main temple.
Important: If you want to see all the temple complexes (and there are many here), it will take several days, almost a week. A standard tour or independent one-day trip covers only the main, most popular locations.
