A couple of years ago, there was no public transport at all on Phu Quoc, and the only options were taxis and renting a motorbike. Now the situation has radically changed for the better, and modern VinBus buses run around the island. We have already used them and will tell you about the current fares for 2026.
How much does a ride cost in 2026
From January 1, 2026, riding VinBus buses on Phu Quoc became paid. Before that, they operated in test mode and were completely free. In our opinion, even paid rides are great news, as the price is still more than affordable.
The fare depends on the distance and is calculated by zones. The minimum price for one trip is 20,000 Vietnamese dong (about 60 rubles). The maximum is 50,000 dong (about 150 rubles). In terms of our money, this is pennies, especially compared to a taxi, where a trip along the same route would cost 5-10 times more.
Note: The price of 20,000 – 50,000 dong is valid for three main "long" routes: No. 17, No. 19, and No. 20, which connect the airport, ferry terminal, main beaches, and tourist areas. Local routes in the Grand World area (their numbers start with V or PQ) may be cheaper.
How to pay for the ride
Payment is made directly on the bus. We did not see turnstiles or ticket offices. In our experience, the conductor or driver determines your boarding and destination zone and tells you the amount. You can pay in cash in dong. Take small bills, they will give change.
Also, according to information from the official VinBus website, payment is possible via their mobile app, but we did not test this method, as cash turned out to be simpler and faster.
Fare for main routes
To make it clearer, here is a brief summary of the most useful routes for tourists. The full map and exact zone fares can always be found on the official VinBus website (don't forget to switch to the Phu Quoc tab).
| Route | Where it goes | Fare |
|---|---|---|
| No. 17 | Airport → Long Beach → Duong Dong → Grand World (24/7, frequent) | 20,000 – 50,000 dong |
| No. 19 | InterContinental area → Long Beach → Airport → Duong Dong → Grand World (rare trips) | 20,000 – 50,000 dong |
| No. 20 | Ferry terminal → Duong Dong Center → Grand World | 20,000 – 50,000 dong |
As can be seen from the table, the price is fixed for these long routes. If you go, for example, from the airport just a couple of stops to the beginning of Long Beach, it will be the minimum fare of 20,000 dong. If you travel the entire route from the airport to the final stop in Grand World, you will pay the maximum 50,000.
Our tips and personal experience
Using buses on Phu Quoc, we noted a few points:
- Huge savings. A trip from the airport to a hotel on Long Beach will cost 20-30 thousand dong versus 150-200 thousand by taxi. The difference is more than noticeable.
- Buses are comfortable. We did not expect to see such modern vehicles with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and luggage space on the island. Even with a large suitcase, it is convenient to travel.
- Hail the bus actively. Drivers sometimes skip stops if they do not see a clear intention of a passenger to board. Just raise your hand when you see an approaching bus.
- Use the app. It is called VinBus. It has an up-to-date route map, real-time schedule, and trip planner. It helps a lot to navigate.
Summing up, we can say that buses on Phu Quoc are a real find for budget travelers. For very little money, you get a comfortable and predictable way to move around the main tourist spots of the island.
