At Sapa Market, you can buy almost everything a tourist needs—from souvenirs to full mountain trekking gear. The assortment has greatly improved and is now divided by floors and zones:

  • First floor and outdoor rows:
    • Souvenirs and crafts: Handmade fabrics, embroidery from local ethnic tribes (Hmong, Dao), silver jewelry, wooden items, traditional wallets and bags.
    • Local products: The main hit is dried meat, considered a local delicacy. Also sold are mountain tea, coffee, spices, honey, and nuts.
    • Fruits and vegetables: Fresh seasonal fruits are sold at open stalls around the market.
  • Second floor (most useful for active tourists):
    • Tourist clothing and footwear: This is the market's 'specialty'. Here, they sell jackets (including membrane ones), windbreakers, trekking pants, thermal underwear, synthetic t-shirts, and most importantly, trekking boots. Often, these are items under brands styled like The North Face, Columbia, or unbranded.
    • Equipment: Trekking poles, backpacks, dry bags, headlamps.
    • Clothing and footwear: Casual clothing, jeans, as well as beautiful traditional ethnic outfits.
  • Evening night market (on the square nearby): This is not for shopping, but for food. Many stalls with Vietnamese street food, grilled dishes, seafood, and exotic dishes.

Based on our personal experience, Sapa Market is the best place in Vietnam to get trekking gear cheaply. If you forgot a warm jacket or realized your sneakers aren't suitable for mountain trails, head to the second floor. The quality for the money (prices here are very low) often turns out excellent for hiking conditions. Don't forget to bargain!
