Answer (changed )

My Son (My Son Sanctuary) is a grand complex of ancient Hindu temples built by the Cham people from the 4th to the 13th century AD. Located among mountains and jungles in central Vietnam, it was the religious and political center of the Champa Kingdom. The complex is dedicated to the god Shiva. At its peak, there were about 70 temples and other structures here.

The fame of My Son is due to several reasons:

  1. Historical and cultural value: This is the most important monument of Cham civilization in Vietnam.
  2. UNESCO status: In 1999, My Son was inscribed as a World Heritage Site as an outstanding example of cultural exchange and unique architecture.
  3. Architecture: The temples are built of fired bricks without using mortarβ€”an ancient technology still not fully understood.
  4. Dramatic history: The complex was abandoned for centuries, rediscovered by French archaeologists, and part of the structures was severely damaged during the Vietnam War by American bombings. Active restoration work is now underway.
