Whether it's worth visiting the train street in Hanoi is a controversial issue. It used to be an authentic place with friendly locals, but today it has turned into a commercial tourist attraction.

On one hand, the sight is truly impressive - the train passes literally centimeters away from houses and cafes. On the other hand, now there are:

  • Crowds of tourists during train passing hours
  • Aggressive vendors and traffic controllers
  • Prices in cafes are 2-3 times higher compared to other places in Hanoi
  • You can only stay on the street during train passage by buying something at a cafe

But packed with tourists

The guide authors, who experienced this place 10 years ago, note that it was much more authentic and pleasant back then. Today, it's a typical "tourist trap," though it remains one of Hanoi's main attractions.

If you're willing to put up with crowds and inflated prices for a few minutes of the passing train spectacle - then it's worth it. If you're looking for authentic experiences - perhaps it's better to choose other locations.
