How much does a hotel in Negombo cost?

Hotels in Negombo are among the cheapest in Sri Lanka. Prices start from 4000 rupees for a double room without air conditioning, and a hostel bed — from 2000 rupees.

Based on our personal experience:

• Budget guesthouses — 4000-6000 rupees for a room without air conditioning
• Hotels with air conditioning — 6000-10000 rupees
• Hotels with a pool on the first line — from 10000 rupees and above
• Hostels — from 2000 rupees for a bed

Important points when searching for accommodation:

• Bargain! The initial price when searching on-site may be inflated by 1.5-2 times
• Book in advance — especially if arriving late at night, some guesthouses close overnight
• Guesthouses across the road from the beach — cheaper, but you need to cross the street to reach the sea
• Hotels on the main street (Porutota Road) — more expensive, but the best beaches are right at the entrance

We personally rented a room with breakfast for only 3300 rupees per day for two — that's about 850 rubles at the 2025 exchange rate. We haven't encountered such low prices anywhere else in Sri Lanka.
