What problems are there with taxis in Bali, what tips are there for using them?

The main problem with taxis in Bali is the conflict between local taxi drivers and app-based booking services. In some areas, such as the popular Melasti Beach or the Canggu district, app-based taxis may simply not be allowed in.
This means you can easily get there using Grab or GoJek, but you won't be able to leave—you'll have to hire a local taxi at an inflated price (for example, from 200,000 rupiah from Melasti Beach).
If you don't use apps, you can hail a taxi on the street or order through your hotel. It is recommended to choose BlueBird taxis (blue cars with a bird logo) and always insist on using the meter, telling the driver "Taxi-meter". It's better to avoid white taxis due to their bad reputation.
