Since December 2024, China's visa rules for tourists have been greatly simplified, and now you can fly in transit with two or even three layovers. However, there are several important conditions:

  • It must be a full transit, i.e., arrival from one country and departure to another, including Macau or Hong Kong. For example, a flight Russia–China–Russia is not considered transit. Also, a flight with layovers to China itself, even to the visa-free island of Hainan (Sanya), is not considered transit.
  • The transit must not exceed 240 hours, which is a full 10 days!!!
  • The transit (i.e., layovers) must strictly occur through specific provinces, airports, and cities from the list.
