Contrary to what some bloggers and supposedly "travel guides" on the internet have been writing a lot lately, that you cannot carry baskets of fruit from Turkey on this or that airline, in reality, carrying a basket of fruit in carry-on luggage or checked baggage is not prohibited by airlines. The reason is that most such sources do not deeply understand the essence of such "prohibitions" and provide not entirely reliable or incomplete information on the topic, or perhaps simply do not possess reliable information. The truth is that as an object of transportation, neither baskets nor fruit pose any danger for transportation, and accordingly are not among the prohibited items, and are allowed for transportation both in carry-on luggage and in checked baggage. That is, in fact, in the norms of airlines and airports, there is no prohibition on carrying baskets of fruit in carry-on luggage or checked baggage.

But to be fair, there is a small grain of truth in what bloggers say and tourists write in reviews. The thing is that many airlines, primarily those working with tour operators and operating charter flights with package tourists, allow taking in addition to the usual allowance of carry-on luggage and checked baggage also a "fruit basket," which does not require additional payment. That is, it's a kind of "bonus" that mainly works on charter flights for Russian package tourists. However, in recent years, some airlines have started to prohibit carrying this additional basket, or allow it only for a fee, as a full additional piece of carry-on luggage. Hence, apparently, the myth was born that baskets of fruit were banned from carry-on luggage.

So, in fact, it turns out: you can carry baskets of fruit in carry-on luggage or checked baggage on a plane, and there is no prohibition on this, if your basket complies with the airline's norms and specifically your ticket. Here it should be kept in mind that the norms for carrying baggage and carry-on luggage by weight, size, and number of pieces may differ among different airlines, on different flights, and various airfare tariffs, so this needs to be clarified before each specific flight in the itinerary receipt for the flight, on the airline's website, or with the tour operator. If you want to carry a basket in addition to carry-on luggage and this is not allowed by the rules on a specific flight, then you will have to pay for it.

Just in case, let's also note that there is another misconception, that fruit can be carried on a plane exclusively in baskets. This is also unreliable information. That is, you can carry fruit in any container, suitcase, backpack, bag, handbag, etc., as long as its weight and dimensions comply with the norms for size and weight.
