Despite the fact that some bloggers and "travel guides" publish information that you cannot carry baskets of fruit from Puerto Rico on one airline or another, in reality, carrying baskets in carry-on luggage or checked baggage on a plane is not prohibited. The thing is that most such sources do not delve deeply into the essence of such "prohibitions" and provide not entirely reliable or incomplete information on this matter, and possibly simply do not have reliable information. The essence is that baskets and fruits themselves do not pose any danger for transportation on a plane, and therefore are not among prohibited items, and are allowed without problems for transportation on planes both in carry-on luggage and in checked baggage. That is, in fact, in the rules of airlines and airports, there is no prohibition on carrying baskets of fruit in carry-on luggage or checked baggage.

But to be fair, there is some truth in what bloggers say and travelers write in reviews. The thing is that many airlines, mainly those working with tour operators and operating charter flights under package tours, allow carrying, in addition to the official allowance for carry-on luggage and checked baggage, a basket of fruit that does not need to be paid for additionally. That is, it is a kind of "bonus" that is allowed mainly on charter flights for Russian package tourists. However, in recent years, some airlines have started to prohibit carrying this additional basket, or allow it only for a fee, as a full additional piece of carry-on luggage. Hence, apparently, the myth was born that baskets of fruit were banned from being carried in carry-on luggage.

So, in the end, it turns out: you can carry "fruit baskets," and there is no prohibition on this, if your basket complies with the airline's norms and specifically your ticket. Here it is worth noting that the airline's norms for weight, size, and number of pieces may differ between different airlines, on different flights, and various airfare tariffs, so this needs to be clarified before each specific flight in the itinerary receipt for the flight, on the airline's website, or with the tour operator. If you want to carry a basket in addition to carry-on luggage and this is not allowed by the rules on a specific flight, then you will have to pay for it.

Just in case, let us also add that there is another misconception that fruits can be carried on a plane exclusively in baskets. This is also incorrect information, and there are no rules on this matter. That is, you can carry fruits in any container, suitcase, backpack, bag, handbag, etc., as long as its weight and dimensions comply with the norms for carriage by size and weight.
