Galata Bridge (Galata Köprüsü) passes over the waters of the Golden Horn Bay and connects the tourist areas of Sultanahmet and Beyoglu. It opened in 1994 and is not an architectural or historical landmark, but it is an iconic place and an important point of reference for tourists and locals alike. And from here there are excellent views of tourist areas.
The bridge is two-level (two-story). On the lower level there is a pedestrian area with many seafood restaurants. The prices in them are quite high, but you can bargain, especially if you come with a company, and you will make a large order. For example, in our experience, the price for a fish dish on the menu is 70 lire (1.52 USD, see the Turkish currency and its exchange rate) fell to 40 (0.87 USD), plus they also gave free tea and Turkish sweets. Although, of course, the availability and size of a possible discount depend on the season and on the time of day: in the evening, the peak of the influx of tourists, and discounts are made reluctantly.
The upper level of the Galata Bridge is a road with wide sidewalks along the edges. This place immediately after the construction of the bridge was chosen by fishermen. They almost round the clock line up in rows along the railing, and pull small fish out of the water. There is no question of any serious catch here, they fish just for fun. By the way, fishing rods, tackle and bait are also sold or rented here, so if you miss fishing, you can also join them.
