What should you make sure to see on Koh Larn in one day so the trip isn't wasted?

If you're going to Koh Larn from Pattaya for just one day, the main thing is not to spread yourself too thin and to make sure you see the best of it. In 6–8 hours, it's realistic to see the island's main beach, go up to a viewpoint with a panoramic view of the bay, and visit the temple on Khao Yai hill. Below is a tried-and-tested plan for how to structure your route and not miss anything.

The best way is to take the ferry from Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya straight to Tawaen Pier – this is the most convenient option for a day trip. That way you'll end up right on the well-equipped Tawaen Beach (beach on the map). Here there's white sand, turquoise water, plenty of cafes along the shore, sun loungers cost 100 baht, and there are toilets and showers. This is the best base for relaxing and the starting point for getting to know the island.

First of all, you should go up to the viewpoint above Tawaen. The climb from the beach is about 60 meters in elevation – essentially like going up a 20-story building, but the views are excellent: the whole beach, the boats, and Pattaya on the horizon. The viewpoint is free and open around the clock (viewpoint on the map). It's best to come here closer to sunset – the sun isn't as harsh, and the photos turn out especially beautiful.

Another must-see is the temple on Khao Yai hill. It's also above Tawaen Beach, only higher up. The main part of the temple is reached by climbing 90 meters, and to get to the Buddha's footprint, you'll have to conquer concrete steps upward – about 20–30 minutes. Entry is free, but you need covered clothing: shoulders and knees must be covered. Walking from the beach can take about two hours, so it's more convenient to take a tuk-tuk or motorbike. If you like snorkeling, be sure to add the neighboring Sangwan Beach to your route – it's a couple of minutes from Tawaen via a wooden bridge. This is one of the best places on Koh Larn, where live corals and fish are right by the shore, 20–40 meters out. Once you arrive by ferry at Tawaen Pier, just turn right from the pier onto the bridge, and you're there.

For actively exploring the island, the most convenient thing is to rent a motorbike – from 300 baht per day. That way you'll have time for the temple, the viewpoints, and the far beaches. If you don't have a license, take a motorbike taxi (50–200 baht per ride) or a tuk-tuk (songthaew) for 30–60 baht. If you've come for one day, we recommend getting a bike right at the pier – it will give you complete freedom of movement.

After lunch, you can return to Tawaen and just relax on a sun lounger, and closer to evening, spend sunset at one of the cafes on the sand. Just don't forget about the last ferry: from Tawaen Pier it leaves around 17:00–18:00 depending on the schedule, and for those who are late, only a speedboat remains for an extra fee.
