Is it worth staying overnight on Koh Larn for a day or two, or is a day trip from Pattaya enough?

If you want to truly experience the island, see the sunsets, the night market and the morning sea without crowds of tourists, then staying overnight on Koh Larn for a day or two is definitely worth it. A day trip is just a quick introduction: you arrive in the morning, and by evening you need to catch the last ferry (around 18:00). With an overnight stay, you'll have time to swim at a relaxed pace, ride around the beaches and try the local evening life.

The main downside of staying overnight is accommodation prices. Hotels on Koh Larn are about twice as expensive as similar ones in Pattaya. There are few budget options, but you can find a modest guesthouse in the village of Na Baan (from 1,000 baht for a double room on weekdays). But you'll be able to visit the Na Wat Market night market with authentic Thai food at a leisurely pace (free entry, open until ~23:00), have dinner at a beachfront cafe and look at the lights of Pattaya.

What else an overnight stay gives you: in the evening at Na Baan pier you can fish with the locals (rod rental about 100 baht), on Tawaen Beach there are bars with music, and on the outskirts of the village there are even stylish places like My Friends or 420Larn. In the morning, before the first ferries arrive, the beaches are deserted, the water is clear – ideal for swimming and snorkeling at Sangwan Beach.

Where it's better to stay:

• In the village of Na Baan – the most budget option, with infrastructure, shops, an excellent night market nearby, and convenient to get to any beach.
• On Tawaen Beach – if you want to live right by the sea and don't need transport. There are cafes and a pier nearby, but it's a bit noisy.
• On the far beaches (Samae, Ta Yai) – for a secluded holiday on the first line, but prices are higher, and you'll have to take a taxi or motorbike to the village.

You can also check in on the spot – many guesthouses have signs about available rooms, but it's a lottery. Online booking is more reliable.

And if one day is enough for you to swim and see the main beaches, then you don't have to stay – just come to Tawaen Beach on the first ferry and return in the evening. But believe me, nighttime Koh Larn with its market and laid-back atmosphere is worth staying at least one night for.
