Can I go to Cairo or Luxor with a Sinai stamp?

No, with a Sinai stamp you cannot go to Cairo, Luxor, or any other cities outside South Sinai. The stamp is only valid in the resort area of the Sinai Peninsula – this includes Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Taba, Nuweiba, St. Catherine's Monastery, and Mount Moses. If you are caught outside this area without a full visa, you will be fined (the fine is 1515 Egyptian pounds) and may be deported.

If you originally entered with a Sinai stamp and later want to go on an excursion to Cairo or the pyramids, this problem can be solved right during your vacation. You need to purchase a full tourist visa. There are two ways:

• Contact the excursion organizers – they often sell a visa sticker "turnkey", but charge from $30 and above (sometimes $35-40).
• Go to Sharm El Sheikh Airport yourself, find the visa sales counter, and buy it for the official $30 US. This will take more time but save money.

Important point: the validity of such a purchased visa will be counted not from the day of purchase, but from the date of your initial entry with the Sinai stamp. That is, if you have already spent 10 days in Sinai, then after buying the visa you will have only 20 days left (out of the required 30). Keep this in mind when planning excursions.
