The most exotic and cheapest way to get from Bangkok to Pattaya is by train. It costs only 32 baht, but it takes a long time: according to the schedule about 4 hours, but in reality it can take up to 6 hours. However, it's a great opportunity to see the Thai countryside from the window.

On weekdays, commuter train No. 283 runs: departure from the old Hua Lamphong station in Bangkok at 06:55, arrival in Pattaya at 10:34. Return train No. 284 leaves Pattaya at 14:20 and arrives in Bangkok at 18:15. On weekends, instead of it, high-speed tourist train No. 997 runs: departure at 06:45, arrival at 09:13, price 170 baht. Return – No. 998 at 16:26, arrival at 18:55. The schedule changes periodically, so before your trip check the current time on the official website of the Thai Railways railway.co.th.

The train makes two stops in Pattaya: at Pattaya Railway Station and at Pattaya Tai Train Station. Both are quite far from the center, so you'll have to take a taxi (from 100 baht) or take a local songthaew (from 30 baht). Please note: there is no ticket office at Pattaya Tai stop, you can buy a ticket directly on the train from the conductor. At the main station, the ticket office opens 30 minutes before departure.

If you are traveling from Chiang Mai or other cities, it is better to first get to Bangkok by regular train or bus, and then transfer to a bus to Pattaya, so as not to waste a whole day on the slow commuter train. All information about the train and schedule is in our article How to get to Pattaya on your own.
