What scenes of hell can be seen in the Temple of Heaven and Hell in Pattaya?

The Temple of Heaven and Hell (Wang Saen Suk) presents classic scenes of hellish punishments from Buddhist mythology. Each sculptural composition is accompanied by a sign describing the sin in Thai, and partially in English. Here are the most impressive scenes:

• Long tongue – punishment for greed, envy, jealousy, and stinginess.
• Pouring molten metal into the mouth – punishment for alcohol consumption.
• Cutting off hands – punishment for theft.
• Breaking the spine – punishment for disrespect towards elders.
• Tearing out the larynx – punishment for foul language.
• Climbing a tree with sharp thorns – punishment for adultery; crows peck from above, and spears pierce from below.
• Birds pecking out entrails or cutting the body – punishment for murder.

One of the most recognizable compositions is sinners being boiled in huge cauldrons, with a statue of Buddha preaching in hell nearby. These scenes look very realistic and leave a strong impression, especially if you come with children.

In the "heavenly" part, the statues are completely different – they do not depict torment, but rather are allegories of sins or Buddhist virtues. There is also a pond with fish and turtles.
