In Malaysia, many expressways (especially on the west coast) are toll roads. Payment is made via electronic systems: Touch 'n Go (card) or SmartTAG (device in the car). Rental cars usually already have a SmartTAG device or Touch 'n Go card, but confirm this when picking up the car. If not, a Touch 'n Go card can be purchased at any gas station or 7-Eleven store (cost about 10 MYR, top-up at the counter). At the entrance to the toll road, you need to tap the card on the reader or drive through the barrier with SmartTAG. The toll fee depends on the distance, averaging 1-5 MYR per 100 km.
