A modern traveler without electronics is like without hands. Here is a minimal set of gadgets that we recommend taking with you:

  • Smartphone — the main assistant: navigator, camera, player, book, and communication tool.
  • Power bank (external battery) — a must, especially if you spend a lot of time outside the hotel. A capacity of 10,000 mAh will be enough.
  • Headphones — to avoid disturbing neighbors on transport and to listen to audio guides in museums.
  • Chargers and cables — for smartphone, camera, power bank. Take extras.
  • Plug adapter — if traveling to a country with non-standard sockets (e.g., UK, USA, or Thailand).
  • Power strip or extension cord — very useful, as hotel rooms often have only one or two sockets.
  • Camera or video camera — if you are seriously into photography. Otherwise, a smartphone camera is sufficient.
  • Flashlight — preferably a headlamp, it frees your hands. Useful for hikes, power outages, or evening walks.
  • Mosquito repellent device — will save your sleep, especially in tropical countries.

Also, don't forget to take a tripod (a compact "spider tripod") for quality photos and selfies, as well as a waterproof case for your smartphone to protect it from water and sand.
