No, you cannot extend your visa-free stay in China on the spot. If you entered under the visa-free regime for 30 days, this period cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you have two options:

  • Exit and re-enter. You can leave China (for example, take a day trip to neighboring Vietnam or Hong Kong) and return immediately. There are currently no restrictions on the number of such entries or the total duration of stay within a year. The main thing is to comply with the 30-day continuous stay rule each time.
  • Apply for a long-term visa. If you know in advance that you need to stay in China for more than a month, it is better to apply for a regular tourist or business visa through a visa center or consulate in advance.

Remember that the 30-day count starts not from the day of entry, but from the next day. You must leave no later than the 30th day.
