Answer (changed )

Dalat is a mountain resort in Vietnam with no sea or beaches, but with cool weather, pine trees, waterfalls, and coffee. Locals call it the 'city of eternal spring', and it's not just marketing: daytime temperatures are +25..+27°C, and at night even in summer it can be +15°C, so a sweater in your suitcase won't be superfluous. We've been to Dalat several times and each time discovered something new – the city captivates with its difference from a typical Vietnamese beach holiday.

This is a brief 'showcase' of the main guide. If after reading you want details – at the end of the article there is a link to the full version with prices, maps, and verified hotels.

🌞 When to go: choosing the season without a miss

The rainy season (May–October) is not a reason to refuse a trip, but be prepared for evening downpours and fog. In the dry season (November–April) it's sunny, comfortable, and this is the best time. The main surprise – at night even in high season it can be +10..+12°C, there is no heating in hotels, so take warm pajamas.

🚌 How to get there: plane, bus, or taxi

The easiest way is via Nha Trang (140 km, buses 4–6 hours) or Ho Chi Minh City (340 km, 6–10 hours by bus, or 1 hour by plane). From Nha Trang, buses run frequently during the day, from Mui Ne as well. There are also night sleeper buses from Vung Tau. Dalat Airport (DLI) receives domestic flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang, but there are almost no direct international flights. Detailed routes and schedules are in the separate 'How to get there' guide.

🚲 What to ride: motorbike, taxi, or Easy Riders

You can only walk around the center (Xuan Huong Lake, market, square). The rest requires wheels. The most profitable option is renting a motorbike (from 130,000 VND/day, about 550 RUB). Taxi around the city: flagfall + first 0.75 km – 15,000 VND, then 14,500 VND per 0.8 km. A short trip – from 30,000 VND.

If you don't know how or don't want to drive yourself – hire Easy Riders (local guides-drivers on motorbikes). They will take you to all the waterfalls and show hidden viewpoints. Cost from $20/day. Look for them near the lake or at travel agencies.

Renting a car makes no sense unless there are four of you – rental from $50/day, plus parking difficulties. Full guide on transportation – in the article 'Transport in Dalat'.

📷 What to see first (even if you have only 2 days)

We advise not to chase quantity, but to take the most interesting:

  • Crazy House – architectural surrealism, resembling a Houdini anthill.
  • Main Market and Night Market – atmosphere, food, and souvenirs for pennies.
  • Linh Phuoc Pagoda – temple made of broken glass and ceramics (epic).
  • Any waterfall – Datanla, Pongour, or Elephant. The latter is especially wild and powerful.
  • Thien Vien Monastery + cable car – panoramas and tranquility.

Detailed list with map, opening hours, and prices – in the article 'Attractions of Dalat'. You can also download ready navigation points on our map.

🍽️ Where to eat and what to buy: coffee, wine, and street food

Economical and tasty – at the night market (dishes from 80,000 VND) or in street cafes for locals (from 50,000 VND). If you want cleanliness and air conditioning – go to the GO! hypermarket (under Lam Vien Square), there is a food court and supermarket with prices lower than the market. Be sure to try local coffee (this is the coffee capital of Vietnam) and wine – it's the only one in the whole country. Fruits not found on the coast: pepino, tamarillo, guanabana. Artichoke tea is a standard souvenir.

Money – only cash. Cards are rarely accepted, except at GO! and large hotels. Russian UnionPay cards work in some ATMs, 'Mir' is practically useless. Exchange dollars or euros at jewelry shops on Phan Boi Chau Street (no signs, just go in and ask).

🏨 Where to stay: without frills, but with comfort

Dalat is about an active day and late return to the room. You are unlikely to need a luxurious pool. Look for accommodation near the center (lake or market area) so you can walk in the evenings. Budget guesthouses from 400,000 VND/night, 3* hotels from 700,000 VND. Check verified options via the form below or on Ostrovok / Yandex.Travel.

And most importantly: don't try to cover everything in one day. Better choose three or four places and feel them. Dalat is not at a gallop, but with coffee on the terrace under the pines.
