From Egypt you can bring a whole set of delicious and exotic sweets and fruits that will be an excellent gift.

Sweets:

  • Dates: The king of Egyptian sweets. Sold in boxes, by weight, dried and fresh. Price from 41 Egyptian pounds per 700 g box.
  • Turkish Delight (Rahat lokum): Colorful cubes with nuts, rose water.
  • Baklava: Layered pastry with nuts and syrup.
  • Halva: Sunflower or sesame (tahini).
  • Basbousa: Semolina cake soaked in syrup. Can be bought ready-made or as a dry mix for preparation (about 22 pounds per 400 g).
  • Honey: Especially interesting is black honey from black cumin flowers (Black seed honey). A 450 ml jar costs about 63 pounds.

Fruits (best to bring in season):

  • Mango: In season (approximately May to September) price can be about $2 per kg, off-season up to $5.
  • Pomegranate.
  • Dates (fresh).
  • Strawberries (in winter months).
  • Guava, figs.

Important: Fruits can only be carried in hand luggage. Consider seasonality β€” prices and taste will be worse off-season. You can buy fruits both at markets (you can bargain and taste) and in supermarkets (fixed prices). Always check the condition when buying.
