No, since 2026, Go KL CityBus buses in Kuala Lumpur are no longer free. Now the fare is 1 ringgit per trip. Despite this, they remain one of the most budget-friendly and convenient modes of transport for getting around the city center.
What has changed and what is important to know:
- Price: 1 ringgit per trip.
- Payment: Only with a Touch 'n Go card. Cash and bank cards are not accepted. Without this card, you cannot board the bus.
- Routes: Instead of 4 old routes, there are now 15 routes, distinguished by colors. They cover an extensive network in the center and adjacent areas.
- Schedule: They operate from 6:00 to 23:00 on weekdays and from 7:00 to 23:00 on weekends. The frequency is from 5 to 10 minutes.
Important for navigation: The old official website gokl.com.my is not working. To plan a route on a Go KL bus, use Google Maps with the public transport functionβit displays current routes (sometimes they may be labeled as Rapid KL Bus).
These buses are still excellent for tourists, as they pass through many attractions and tourist areas. During peak hours (7:30-10:00 and 16:30-20:00), be prepared for crowds.
