Where is the bus station in Chiang Rai and how to get there?

In Chiang Rai, there are two main bus stations: Old (for local and regional routes) and New (for intercity and international). Their location is very important to avoid going in the wrong direction.
1. Old Bus Station (Old Bus Station / Terminal 1) is located right in the city center, near the night market and main hotels (view on map). Buses from Chiang Mai arrive here, and minibuses depart to Chiang Rai province (e.g., to the Golden Triangle, Mae Sai). You can get here from any point in the center on foot or by tuk-tuk for 50-60 baht.
2. New Bus Station (New Bus Station / Terminal 2) is located 7 km south of the center (view on map). All buses from Bangkok, Pattaya and other distant cities arrive here. To get from here to the city, you need to take a songthaew minibus (orange or white). The fare is 25 baht per person, but the driver may wait until enough passengers are gathered. An alternative is a taxi for 200-300 baht.
Don't mix them up! Be sure to check which station your bus arrives at. If you are coming from Chiang Mai, you go to the Old station. If from Bangkok or the south of the country, to the New one.
