From Chiang Rai International Airport (Mae Fah Luang) to the city center, you can take a taxi, use an app, or take a shuttle. The airport is only 8 km from the city, so the journey won't take much time.

The easiest way for beginners is to take a taxi at the official counter inside the terminal. The trip will cost 300-400 baht (about $8.5-11.5) depending on the time of day and the exact address in the city. This is reliable but not the cheapest.

To save money, you can use mobile taxi apps, which work great in Thailand. Install Grab, Bolt, or InDrive (for this, you'll need a local SIM card with internet). Through the app, the trip to the center will cost from 180 baht. The driver will pick you up from the airport parking lot.

If you're traveling with a lot of luggage or with family, it's worth booking a transfer through the hotel in advance. Many hotels provide this service, but it's usually more expensive than a taxiβ€”from 500 baht.

Lifehack: If you want to save money and aren't afraid to bargain a bit, go out of the airport building to the parking lot or even the street. There you can find a tuk-tuk or motorbike taxi that will agree to take you for 200 baht. But this method works better during the day; in the evening, there may be no drivers.
