In 3 days in Langkawi, you can manage to see the main natural wonders, ride the cable car, and go on a sea excursion. Here is an approximate route based on our personal experience:
Day 1: Mountain views and waterfalls (west of the island)
- Morning: Visit the SkyCab cable car and SkyBridge. Arrive at opening (9:00) to avoid crowds. The ticket costs 89 ringgit.
- Day: After descending, explore the Oriental Village at the foot of the cable carβhere you can buy duty-free chocolate and souvenirs cheaply.
- Afternoon: Head to the Seven Wells Waterfall (Telaga Tujuh), which is a 5-minute drive away. The climb up the stairs will take 20-40 minutes, but at the top, you'll find scenic natural pools for swimming. Entrance is 10 ringgit.
Day 2: Mangrove jungles and eagles (east of the island)
- All day: The most cost-effective way is to buy a group tour to Kilim Geoforest Park. For 90-100 ringgit per person, you'll get hotel transfer, a boat ride through the mangrove forests (included in the UNESCO list), eagle feeding, a visit to the bat cave, and a fish farm. This is 2-3 times cheaper than going on your own.
- Evening: Returning to the hotel, relax on the beach (Cenang or Tengah) and have dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 3: Lakes, legends, and shopping (center and south)
- Morning: Sea excursion Island Hopping. For 45-50 ringgit, they will take you by boat to Lake of the Pregnant Maiden (Dayang Bunting) on a neighboring island, where you can swim in fresh water, and also ride past feeding eagles and be taken to the white sand beach Beras Basah. You can buy the tour right on the beach.
- Day: After returning, a trip to the city of Kuah. Here you can see for free the main symbol of the islandβthe 12-meter eagle statue at Eagle Square, stroll through the "Legends of Langkawi" park, and stock up on alcohol, chocolate, and cosmetics at the duty-free shops in Jetty Point Mall.
Transport tip: For such a route, it's most convenient to rent a motorbike (from 35 ringgit/day) or a car (from 100 ringgit/day). There is no public transport on the island, and taxis for each day will be expensive. Don't forget your international driving permit (IDP).
This plan covers the must-see locations of Langkawi. More ideas and detailed descriptions of each attraction can be found in our full guide: Attractions of Langkawi: what to see and where to stay?
