The easiest and most convenient way to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang is by ready-made 'hotel-to-hotel' transfer. This is the most popular option among tourists. Such a transfer includes a minivan ride from your hotel in Pattaya to the pier, a ferry crossing, and delivery to a hotel or central office on Had Sai Khao beach on Koh Chang.
- Cost: from 650 baht (about $18) per person.
- Travel time: Advertised as 4-6 hours, but in practice, including transfers and waiting, it can stretch to 8-10 hours.
- Where to buy: Tickets can be purchased online on the aggregator 12go.asia, at any travel agency in Pattaya, or sometimes directly at the hotel.
- Carriers: Services are provided by companies Suvarnabhumi Burapha, 35 Group Pattaya, and BonsiriFerry.
A more complex and cheaper way is to go by scheduled buses with transfers:
- From Pattaya Bus Station (North Pattaya Bus Station) buy a ticket to the city of Trat or Chanthaburi.
- In Trat, from the bus station, transfer to a local taxi (songthaew) to Ao Thammachart pier (about 400 baht per car).
- Cross by ferry to the island (80 baht).
This option requires more time and independence, but can be slightly cheaper, especially if you are traveling alone.
Note: There are currently no direct scheduled buses from Pattaya directly to Koh Chang pier. All routes are either tourist transfers or require a transfer in Trat.
If you value comfort and speed, you can order a private taxi from Pattaya directly to the pier. The trip will take about 4 hours and cost from 3500 baht (about $95) per car.
