What is the weather like on Fansipan and when is the best time to go?

The weather on Fansipan is unpredictable and can change abruptly. Even in summer, at the summit (3143 m), temperatures often stay within 12-20°C, and in winter, frosts are possible. The main enemy of good views is cloudiness, fog, and rain.

When is the best time to go to Fansipan:

• The ideal time is the dry season, which lasts approximately from November to April. During these months, there is the least precipitation and the highest chance of clear skies and stunning visibility.
• The best time of day is the first half of the day, preferably in the morning. By noon, the summit is often covered in clouds.

What you need to know and how to prepare:

• Dress warmly at any time of year. Be sure to bring a windbreaker or warm sweater, a hat, and gloves. If wind with rain picks up, you will get very cold even in July.
• Check the forecast. Before the trip, be sure to check the weather forecast for Sapa and Fansipan. If continuous cloudiness is predicted, it might be worth postponing the visit.
• The wet season (May-October) is risky: there is a high probability that you will be in thick fog and see nothing but a white veil.
