The Old Quarter of Hanoi (Hanoi Old Quarter) is located to the north, west, and east of the central Hoan Kiem Lake (Lake of the Returned Sword). This is a compact but very densely built-up area in the historical center of the city.
On the map, its boundaries can roughly be determined by the following streets: to the south — Hoan Kiem Lake and Hang Bong Street, to the north — Hang Dau and Cau Go Streets, to the east — Tran Quang Khai Street, and to the west — the railway and Tran Nhat Duat Street. The area encompasses the famous "36 Streets of Craftsmen," whose names begin with "Hang" (meaning "goods" or "shop").
This is the main tourist and transportation hub. Here you will find hundreds of hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, travel agencies, and markets. The main Hanoi Railway Station (Ga Ha Noi) is located less than a kilometer west of the Old Town and can be reached on foot.
To orient yourself on the ground, we recommend using our detailed map, which marks all the key points of the Old Town and other attractions in Hanoi: Old Town on the map.
