In which area of Negombo is it better to stay?

For beach holidays, we definitely recommend the tourist area along Porutota Road — this is where the cleanest beaches and best hotels are located.

Negombo is clearly divided into two main accommodation zones:

Tourist Area (Lewis Place and Porutota Road)

This is the best choice for vacation! Here, most of the hotels and guesthouses, restaurants, cafes, travel agencies, and relatively clean beaches are located. The area stretches along the coast, and this is where you should head if you want to look for accommodation on the spot.

• Porutota Road — here are the cleanest beaches and better hotels, prices are higher
• Lewis Place — more budget options, especially guesthouses across the road from the beach
• Pros: clean beaches, all tourist infrastructure nearby, quiet environment
• Cons: 20-30 minutes walk or by tuk-tuk to the city center

Negombo Town Center

This is the commercial heart of the city, but there are no beaches here. Suitable only for a short stop if you need to be near the bus station or railway station.

• Pros: the lowest prices in Sri Lanka, exchange offices with favorable rates, shops, market
• Cons: no beaches, noisy, 2 kilometers to the sea

There are also hotels south of the lagoon and north of the city, but they are suitable only for those who have their own transport.
