What happens if prohibited items are found in hand luggage

If a prohibited item is found in your hand luggage, you will have to part with it. Arguing or trying to persuade aviation security staff is useless—their decisions are aimed at the safety of all passengers and are not up for discussion.
You will be asked to dispose of the item in a special container available at every airport. No one will store it for you or send it on. If the discovered item is not contraband or prohibited by criminal law, no fine or penalty will follow. You simply will not be allowed to board the plane with that item. Trying to hide the item after detection or move it to checked luggage (which has long since been sent away) is pointless and impossible.
