Lake Svetloyar is one of the most mysterious lakes in Nizhny Novgorod region and in Russia as a whole. The lake has an almost perfect oval form 470 to 350 meters, the water is always clean and clear. Features a large depth of 33.4 meters. Considered a Holy place.

But even if you don't believe in a beautiful legend, mysteries abound at the lake. Until now, scientists have not come to a consensus about its origins, but today the predominant version of its origin space, i.e. it is believed that it was formed because of the fallen here about three thousand ago smoldering meteorite. There are also versions of the hypothesis about the glacial, karst, starichna, volcanic, neotectonic and salt dome origin. It is also not clear why the water in the lake is always pure and fresh, never overgrown with slime. Water from Svetloyar may many years be kept in the vessel without losing the purity, clarity and taste.
Today the lake is a Holy place and a natural monument of Federal significance. The area around is environmental: it's impossible to put up tents, cut trees, make fires, litter, fish. To swim in the lake, although historically it here it was impossible to do, can only be washed clean by its waters.

There are exhibitions on the history of the Vetluga region, including the existence of mythical creatures, allegedly once lived in these parts - "venugopala". How to get there: the lake Svetloyar is located 130 kilometers North of Nizhny Novgorod near the village of Vladimir (the Svetloyar lake on the map region). Independently you can get here by bus from Kanavinskaya bus station, which is located near railway station and metro station "Moskovskaya".
