How to get to Koh Samui from Phuket and back

Паром на Самуи

Phuket and Koh Samui parts direct is 270 kilometers and the whole continent. The fact that Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand on the Eastern side from the mainland (Malay Peninsula), and Phuket is on the West side, in the Andaman sea (see map of Thailand with resorts). It turns out that directly on the ground to travel between Islands, as well as on water, if only not to go more than two thousand kilometers around the Peninsula. Almost all non-aviation routes with the change of transport ferry+bus or Vice versa. While on Koh Samui from the mainland accessible only by ferry, while on Phuket are usually on the bus on the bridge. Oh and have an opportunity to directly fly from island to island, though it is not a budget option. Read more about all the ways next.

On the plane

From Phuket Airport to Koh Samui and back daily five flights airline Bangkok Airways. Flights are direct and are run by the airline directly between the airport of Samui and the Phuket airport. The cost is high, from $ 100 per one way flight. The flights are carried out on turboprop ATR 72 aircraft.

It remains the case only for small – to get to/from the airport on Koh Samui, what we have written in detail here, and to/from Phuket airport, what we have here.

Find and book tickets to Phuket on the date, you can through the search form. Search is very flexible, and allows you to search for flights on different dates, with or without transfers, in both directions or one, etc.:

By bus+ferry

Despite the short distance, to travel between the Islands by bus+ferry should devote almost a full day. Night journeys between the Islands there, so you need to plan the shipment in the first half of the day.

There are regular buses and tourist buses. We traditionally recommend you to use a Shuttle that will depart from the bus stations.

Buses – the most reliable method, although not the most convenient in terms of the places of departure and arrival, as well as schedule. Sometimes you have to do to transplant them. In Phuket they depart/arrive from the new Phuket bus station (read more about the bus station of Phuket and how to get it here), Samui arrive/depart from Don Sak pier on the mainland. Further from the pier by ferry Seatran will remain to cross to Koh Samui (about 1.5 hours), the cost of the ferry is included in the price of a bus ticket. In the end, the end point in Koh Samui – Nathon pier, where the desired location on Samui can already be reached by taxis, songthaews or simply by taxi. Perhaps in connection with the introduction into operation in 2014 in Samui new bus terminal (bus station Koh Samui on the map), in a short time it will become the end point of the route. But even in this case, you had better get off the bus at the pier to Nathon, because there is easier access to popular beaches on songthaews.

Such a direct Shuttle bus runs only once a day, departs at 09:00. Although some sources mention about another bus at 07:00, but maybe he goes in high season. Journey time overall is about 8 hours, arriving in Samui at 17:00. The price is 450 baht. Tickets are sold only at ticket offices of bus terminals and anywhere else not to buy.

If you get to this bus failed, you still can get with connecting flights to Surat Thani (it is the nearest transport hub on Samui). This bus service is more active. So, from Phuket bus station in Suratthani every hour from 07:00 to 17:00 there is a minivan, and 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00 there is a large bus at a cost of 195 baht. Arriving at the bus station in Surat Thani, you will need to get the bus to Don Sak pier and then a ferry to Nathon for about 300 baht including ferry.

Now, about another fashion – branded carrier Phantip Travel. It is a well-known company with a well-developed route network in the South of Thailand and my own transportation. On this route, a convenient Shuttle service from 450 baht including ferry. Depart daily from Koh Samui at 07:30 and 09:30, Phuket to 08:00, 09:00, 10:00. E. strange, but on the official website of Samui to Phuket is 2 buses and 3!?

You can buy tickets at the pier in Nathon on Koh Samui, in the offices of the company, at any travel Agency on the website of the company http://phantiptravel.com. The office of the company on Koh Samui: 11/4 Moo 3, Taveeradpakdee Rd, Nathon, about 100 metres from Nathon pier, the landmark - Krungsri Bank.

Departure/arrival occurs with the new bus terminal of Samui from Nathon pier and Phuket from the company office located at the bus station. Conveniently, tickets can be purchased at almost any travel Agency, with over 600 baht sold transfers, including transportation from the hotel to the place of departure. Also in the process of moving you will be asked for an additional 200 baht to take you to your hotel at the destination, or drive to one of affilirovannyh hotels where you will have to stay at least for the night.

And now for the cons Phantip Travel. Despite promises to arrive at your destination by a certain time, feel free to add another 5-6 hours minimum. Moving does not always go on a big bus, sometimes they're replaced by minivans. During the route you will have to do 2-3 transplants to expect in different cafes and transport points of the company. So at each stage you will get with the proposals for additional transfer to the hotel and hotel deals. Sometimes, the routes of divorces happen when Phuket passengers taken to the bus station, and very inconveniently located office, where they will offer the same Shuttle service for 200 baht, and if you don't agree, just leave you in this place, and you need to travel independently on anything, and no transportation nearby except taxis, will not.

Omnipresent, the company, Lomprayah also offers transfers on the route Phuket-Koh Samui and back. Unlike Phantip, lompraya almost never happens no unpleasant surprises, the transportation is very fast, but the cost is high. Part of the route passes from Phuket by bus, and on Samui is already on a fast catamaran.

Departure from Thailand is from the company office in the centre of Phuket town (on the map), and on Samui you arrive at Nathon pier. Daily only one flight: Phuket to Koh Samui at 10:00, arrival 16:45; from Koh Samui to Phuket at 12:45, arrival 21:00. The cost is 750 baht. Information about the schedule and the cost on the website of the company http://www.lomprayah.com/.

The rainy season in Thailand is nonsense. All the different provinces. For Koh Samui in July ,August and until mid September is the best time of rest. And this time, not the rainy season. There is a month can go 3-4 rain for 15 minutes. And this is the peak season. In Italy from August 1 to September 1 all the holiday( in Spain too) and at this time the island crowded with Italians(but not the Spaniards, there are a few). 10 times vacationing with his wife on Koh Samui this summer for a month each time. Russian tour guides(friends) we were told that winter here is worse.A few years ago I went to Koh Samui in winter from 20 January to 15 February. Really did not like.Every three days the storm in the sea grass, boards, logs and other debris. And weather is normal, you can relax. But it is not a rule, sometimes worse, but sometimes better. Therefore, from 1 November the best place to relax on Koh Chang until March, then worse. But the ball there is a zero. So everybody is looking for what suits him. Someone like Phuket, some don't, also the winter vacation is good there, but for us in winter, Koh Chang better.I will add that to Chang the wild tides and need to get serious about the choice of hotel. ...

All true, and nobody on this website never claimed that in Thailand the rainy season is one for the whole country, and on this account even sickly seasons sign is - https://nashaplaneta.net/asia/thai/resorts.html#seasoing. But you draw conclusions about the weather on several trips at one time, and one trip to another - not objectively. Still the best season in Samui is in January-April. And the fact that you were not so lucky... well, weather is unpredictable because almost... ...

Read the post above. This answer for AnyChek. And what about January-April , I live here told friends, operating guides. It is friends, just guides I'm not going to listen. Been there, done that. And about the spring floods you forget about autumn I will not say, you do know about them and during them happening. And that weather is unpredictable, you're right... But for our 10 year old travel to Samui had no problems with the weather. ...

Samui is a wonderful island! We flew from Moscow with a stopover in Bangkok, the tour was in early March. The weather was great, and just in the last day the sun hid, and we learned what a tropical rain. we stayed in the wonderful hotel briza resort. The hotel consists of many small two-storey houses, each house a maximum of 4 rooms. The whole hotel look like the garden of Eden, is buried in verdure. https://s21myt.storage.yandex.net/rdisk/0282b1215fc5aa0f9776ead8d3eb30ea7b0acb1ab2a4eba4fc66a156dca1f0a0/5afc4db2/Iz9EtxiULe3pXe_aog7SrfP5T_43wlLv_b9lx8n9N07GEU-OGdwP9vM_n5V-S2R2LIJYfg_5nV8DUua9XazBtA==?uid=570953836&filename=screen-27.png&disposition=inline&hash=&limit=0&content_type=image%2Fpng&fsize=2072870&hid=6d79051b068192af380a65417fe5a4fb&media_type=image&tknv=v2&etag=e2021e4c562e918db407b5fb8c87741f&rtoken=ncVj3wQnrMFr&force_default=yes&ycrid=na-d2defb59a16233bd47c136326d27c948-downloader19f&ts=56c5458895080&s=4f047c83238c7b9d16e7a83ee43932c83b7da2bb355dbe39aaea70aa538d1e8d&pb=U2FsdGVkX18n1T8abB1ZlqtlxBErujBILFWrjXfoPwWO4Bilw3WCWb9esdIYIpV1pqN7v6ek0w7NLrwBPP9hTUIc1ssORClzTCxHqh2pmPc the Island is very interesting because on one side you can only see the dawn, and on the other the decline. We lived in Chaweng, there are only sunrises, so we decided one evening to go to the other end of the island to watch the sunset, and absolutely do not regret it, it is very beautiful! https://s93vla.storage.yandex.net/rdisk/cc802dd98f2f5b87f5aa7a21aa4bb7c8ab8e8c86350b5b585a8aa30fbfb524f0/5afc4e09/Iz9EtxiULe3pXe_aog7Srevm3usYZCmB4ywxsHa2FWd38j4XrRZROfOtWGOXa--MO_1CdzR4bnGeAOKk2chqKA==?uid=57095383 ...

I have a strong opinion that trips to a guide which tells about the sights, only needed for historical sites. And considering that there are places on Samui not, then excursions are not necessary, if you are able to reach on their own. If you drive a motorbike, take it in rent and go, all you will see. ...
