How and what to get to Samui
To get to Koh Samui even tourists with a complete lack of experience of independent travel will not be easy. Here are many ways to get to the island too, all of them well organized carriers, and which one to choose – depends on how much you are willing to spend money and time on the road. The easiest way is of course to buy a ticket to the island with a stopover in Bangkok, and preferably without a change of airport for the transplant. But if you want to save money and you don't mind spending additional time on the road, can get from Bangkok to Koh Samui by train, bus or ferry. Below detail all the modes of transport and methods in detail, but if you need specific direction, then read the article:

On Samui by plane
Samui is a small international airport Samui International Airport (IATA code USM). Airport website http://www.samuiairportonline.com/. Located two kilometers from the main Chaweng beach (Samui airport on the map). There is no terminal building and arrivals and departures arranged just under the roof on poles. However, on arrival you can obtain a visa on arrival and go through customs. In the future plans to build another state of the airport, but it will have to be satisfied with.
The airport receives flights from cities in Thailand as well as from Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. The most frequent flights from Bangkok (almost every hour). Also flies from Chiang Mai, Krabi, Phuket, Pattaya airport (U-Tapao). By local standards the prices for flights are very expensive, budget airlines here do not fly.
Airlines flying to Koh Samui:
|Bangkok Airways||Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi airport), Chiang Mai, Hong Kong, Krabi, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Phuket, Singapore, Pattaya airport (U-Tapao)|
|Berjaya Air||Kuala Lumpur (airport Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah)|
|Firefly||Kuala Lumpur (airport Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah)|
|Nok Air||Bangkok (Don Mueang airport), offers multiple destinations flight+bus+ferry|
|AirAsia||Bangkok (Don Mueang airport), offers multiple destinations flight+bus+ferry|
|Thai Airways International||Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi airport)|
The lack of direct flights to the island is the high price. Prices in this area is high due to the monopoly of companies (airport on the island is private and belongs to Bangkok airlines). But there is a way to get on the plane to Samui a bit cheaper. On the mainland near the island is the airport Surat Thani (Surat Thani Airport, Surat Thani Airport on the map), where from Bangkok from the Don Mueang airport flights are carried out by the budget airlines Air Asia, Nok Air, Lion Air and Thai Smile (flies from Suvarnabhumi airport) and Thai Airways. On arrival at the airport to the island can be easily reached with a comprehensive Shuttle bus and ferry-350 baht (about 2.5 hours in time), which can be purchased directly at the airport when you exit or book in advance using the search form below. This way you get cheaper from Bangkok around 1000 baht than a direct flight, but will spend 5 hours on more time. Also airlines Air Asia and Nok Air offer existing group ticket (Joint Ticket), including flight+transfers organized by bus and ferry. For example, Nok Air offers flight+transfer from 3000 baht there and back, and the AirAsia and also cheaper. However, if you arrive in the airport and will acquire the Shuttle service to the island, it will be cheaper than if you buy ready-made flight+airport transfer.

On Koh Samui by bus
This is an excellent, cheap and convenient way to get to the island. Despite the fact that Samui is an island, bus tickets are sold to the end point on the island. The crossing to the island is by ferry, and its cost is included in the total ticket price (this is the so called joint ticket, i.e. bus + ferry). Some, mainly buses, delivered directly to the new bus station Koh Samui near Lipa Noi (from the same place they go, and they need them to buy tickets, not at travel agencies), some deliver to Don Sak pier on the mainland and just transplanted passengers on the ferry.
In General, there are tour buses and Shuttle. Flight tour buses, organized tour companies, and tickets are purchased in advance. Tourist buses are not very reliable, and comfort is often greatly inferior regular. It is recommended to use regular buses which leave from the bus stations, ticket can be purchased directly before departure. Can also book and purchase tickets in advance via the form:
And then there are carrier branded on the buses in southern provinces of Thailand - http://phantiptravel.igetweb.com/index.php. The company developed route network, own transport, there are Join Tickets, transfers from/to hotels. You can buy tickets in travel agencies around the island, on the pier Naton, and also in the office of the company at 11/4 Moo 3, Taveeradpakdee Rd, about 100 metres from Nathon pier, the landmark - Krungsri Bank.
The tickets of most companies can also be by using this search form:
From Bangkok to Samui by bus
Purchase tickets before departure, but you can book in advance by clicking on the link for the right flight in the schedule. The cost of tickets depending on the class of bus is 400 to 1000 baht.
Samui buses from Bangkok now arrive at the new bus station near the village of Lipa Noi (bus station Koh Samui on the map), and not to the pier DonSak on the mainland, as it was before. In this way, sitting on the bus in Bangkok you without any direct links are on the island because the bus is forwarded to the ferry, Raja ferry. However, there is one disadvantage - the bus station is far from Nathon pier, where you catch taxis on the ring road in Chaweng and Lamai. Now the station is possible to walk to the ring road literally 200 metres away, and there catch a taxi to Lamai, or drive it in the opposite direction to Nathon, where you can transfer to Chaweng etc Tickets for buses from Koh Samui to Bangkok are sold at the box office on the same bus station.
Also from Bangkok Khao San road (Khao San Road) every day is lots of tourist buses to Koh Samui, which is also in General is a good option to get to the island, but these buses bad fame, and tourists frequently complain about the missing items in these buses and even the fact that they just do not deliver to places or lose track.
There is still a transfer of the company lompraya (Lomprayah) by bus+high speed catamaran, but more on that below.

From Phuket to Koh Samui by bus
Despite the short distance, to travel between the Islands by bus+ferry should devote almost a full day. Night journeys between the Islands there, so you need to plan the shipment in the first half of the day.
There are regular buses and tourist buses. We traditionally recommend you to use a Shuttle that will depart from the bus stations.
Buses – the most reliable method, although not the most convenient in terms of the places of departure and arrival, as well as schedule. Sometimes you have to do to transplant them. In Phuket they depart/arrive from the new Phuket bus station (read more about the bus station of Phuket and how to get it here), Samui arrive/depart from Don Sak pier on the mainland. Further from the pier by ferry Seatran will remain to cross to Koh Samui (about 1.5 hours), the cost of the ferry is included in the price of a bus ticket. In the end, the end point in Koh Samui – Nathon pier, where the desired location on Samui can already be reached by taxis, songthaews or simply by taxi. Perhaps in connection with the introduction into operation in 2014 in Samui new bus terminal (bus station Koh Samui on the map), in a short time it will become the end point of the route. But even in this case, you had better get off the bus at the pier to Nathon, because there is easier access to popular beaches on songthaews.
Now, about another fashion – branded carrier Phantip Travel. It is a well-known company with a well-developed route network in the South of Thailand and my own transportation. On this route, a convenient Shuttle service from 450 baht including ferry. Depart daily from Koh Samui at 07:30 and 09:30, Phuket to 08:00, 09:00, 10:00. E. strange, but on the official website of Samui on pocket is 2 buses and 3!?
Omnipresent, the company, Lomprayah also offers transfers on the route Phuket-Koh Samui and back. Unlike Phantip, lompraya almost never happens no unpleasant surprises, the transportation is very fast, but the cost is high. Part of the route passes from Phuket by bus, and on Samui is already on a fast catamaran.

The train tickets all over Thailand from Koh Samui you can buy without problems in travel agencies, but with additional fees. In addition, at the station or in travel agencies Bangkok you can buy a combined ticket for train, includes transportation (bus+ferry) to Koh Samui. It will cost about 300 baht more expensive. If you don't buy a combined ticket, no problem: at the exit from the railway station in Surat Thani you will have to wait for the buses that will take you to the island for 200-300 baht, including the cost of the ferry (Donsak pier), and approximately two and a half hours time.

Ferries to Koh Samui, not only with the mainland but also with the neighbouring larger Islands Ko Tao (Koh Tao) and Phangan island (Ko Phangan). As a rule, a boat or a ferry used in conjunction with bus, plane or train from other cities of Thailand, as mentioned above.
To get on the water in Koh Samui is accessible from several ports and various companies. This files most often on the mainland leave from DonSak pier in Surat Thani. In fact, he is quite far from the city (see Donsak pier on the map), but it strongly should not worry.
