Motorcycle taxis in Thailand

One kind of taxi in Thailand is the motorcycle taxi (the locals call them "motosi", motosai). This is a great and inexpensive way of transportation, but rather extreme and not always suitable to travel with large bags.

Motorcycle taxis can be hailed on any street in any city of Thailand, not just tourist spots. They don't even have to search, they offer their servants at every step, especially in the tourist areas, near shopping centres and train stations.

By law, all motorbike taxi should be official and licensed, their drivers dressed in special bright vests, which allow to distinguish them from the riders and privateers.

The fare for a motorcycle taxi on a normal car taxis are much lower, but at the same time, unknowingly for the trip, you can pay more at times. To avoid this, the government of Thailand has established a single price for the services of motorcycle taxis throughout the country. Using the data below you can roughly Orient the price, not to be deceived.

Prices for motorcycle taxis in Thailand:

The first two kilometers of the tripnot more than 25 baht (see currency of Thailand, the exchange rate)
The trip from 2 to 5 kilometers25 baht + 2-5 baht per kilometer after 2 kilometers of travel
The trip from 5 to 15 kilometers10 baht per kilometer
Trip over 15 milesnegotiable price, but not more than 150 baht

Of course, in practice, not all motoshi ready to carry passengers, especially tourists, at the established state price. Often tourists take twice as expensive than the local. So be sure before you travel find out how much it will cost to your destination and, if necessary, bargain. And another tip: try to be more accurate to call the place you need to reach, including specify the area, otherwise you can not get where you want.
