How to get to Bondowoso
Bondowoso is a little bit away from the main highways, so have to get here only with transfers by bus through the city of Probolinggo (Probolinggo), Situbondo (Situbondo), or Jember (Jember). Of these cities to Bondowoso sent only local suburban buses and direct flights from major tourist cities such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, no. Ideally, you should try to arrive in one of these cities early in the morning, or at least until noon, and then to have time to drive to Bondowoso on the bus, otherwise you can not manage and have to either spend the night here, or you can take a taxi. All the buses here go without a schedule for occupancy.
In Bondowoso all buses arrive at the bus station in the city centre (bus station on the map). Hence travel and minibus to Sempol village (25 000 rupees in 3 hours, go from morning until approximately 15:00 on occupancy). From Sempol to the beginning of the ascent to the Ijen another 10 kilometers and can be reached by motorcycle taxi for 50000 rupees.
On the bus to Probolinggo you can come from Denpasar, Malang, Jember, Surabaya, Jogjakarta (see more about Probolinggo and how to get there). The bus station here is called Bayuangga. She's notorious for traditional travel deals with transport, when foreigners instead of the bus bring on the fake station, travel agencies or "helpers" to sell bus tickets at double the price bypassing, and the like. Therefore, this route should be very carefully, and ideally to follow that will take you exactly to the station using the Navigator.
On the train to Probolinggo can be reached from Surabaya (from Jakarta) or Banyuwangi (if you come from Bali). Railway station is located in the city centre and 8 kilometres from the bus station to the bus station Bayuangga, still need to get a taxi or motorcycle taxi, and in the afternoon you can take a taxi for 5000 rupees.
When arrive at the bus station, looking for a minibus to Bondowoso, but try to avoid the help of outsiders who offer themselves. Directly contact the drivers to find the right bus. Buses depart until about lunch, on the road for 2 and a half hours, cost from 35 000 rupees.
In Jember is the nearest railway station so if you prefer the train, it is best to go here. In Jember trains arrive from Surabaya and Banyuwangi. From Surabaya train goes 3.5-4 hours, costs 56,000 rupees. Trains on this route a lot, at least 10 daily. Read more about trains in Indonesia, how and where to buy tickets and check the schedule here.
From Jember next step is to take a taxi to the bus station Arjasa (8 kilometers), and there take a bus to Situbondo (Situbondo), which passes through Bondowoso in 1 hour, cost about 10,000 rupees.
Through Situbondo (Situbondo) can be reached if you are coming from outside Bali. But if you are coming here to climb the volcano, much sense in this, as it is better to get to Idzhena through Banyuwangi, which is located on the way to Situbondo.
If you still decide to get through Situbondo, there is a bus station can be reached by bus in 10 000 rupees, in 1 hour.
