Review: Now my favorite Vietnam. part 3 of Seven days in Hoi an

Read CH2. In Da Nang

The small town of Hoi an had become our home for seven days. Arriving from the airport of da Nang with a local bus, we walked from the bus station to look for a hotel.

The first us hotel in Hoi an Grassland Hotel was. The price at the reception gave us $15 for two with Breakfast. After inspecting the room and the hotel, we without hesitation agreed. The room we had is great: with a TV, air conditioning, bathroom and even a balcony. The hotel has a small pool under the roof, a restaurant. And gave free rusty bicycles. As usual in Vietnam, at the reception some computers with free Internet. The breakfasts were, of course, modest, but delicious.

Perhaps the only minus of the hotel is some distance from the city centre. But, given the size of Hoi an, in 20 minutes we reached the city centre and to the river. In General I can say that the ratio quality/price this hotel was just a record that I've ever been in.

Really such a low price was because we came in the off-season. The hotel was almost empty. It is believed that in October in Hoi an can often happen weather bad weather, even hurricanes. But during the week that we stayed there, there was no hurricane, and even a normal shower. Only two or three times was a little rain.

To describe our stay in Hoi an is the whole story, because for seven days we climbed the entire city and its surroundings inside and out.

There were more tourists except us

So, try to focus on the most interesting places and practical points:

Every day we went for a walk to the city centre and on the riverside of Hoi an, and ended the evening at one of the restaurants. Food prices are just super. In an average dinner with a couple glasses of beer for two, we left for 100 000 VND (a little more than $ 5). Maybe such low prices in the off-season, I don't know.

Restaurants on the Riverwalk

Tried to find a shop on the type of the 7/11to buy something to eat. But there it was. Not a single supermarket in the city we could not find. We found only a few shops in our village (and what, Hoi an, though the city, but actually a large village), nothing like the modern shop. Of course, or pay by credit card or buy beer or a drink from the fridge or heat purchased prefabricated as in the famous 7/11 there. Even the price tags on the goods almost nowhere, and the prices are called sellers. And, as I thought the price was called "from Baldy", and apparently especially for tourists. But I wanted milk with Breakfast cereal, so we go to these stores every day. By the way, and the milk and cereal we went out quite expensive. For 1 liter milk in the package had to pay 40 000 VND, more than 2 dollars. And for the package of cereal had to fork out 120 000 VND. Inexpensive drinks we found in the shops at the bridge near the main market. There were small shops like our old Optovik. Everything was really cheap. A great snack to beer (various dried reptiles) for sale on ground floor in main market.

The beach in the town before him from the centre of 3-4 km. From our hotel to the beach we took the hotel bikes (free). It takes about 15-20 minutes. There are several hotels that are right on the coast, with its beach.

When we arrived at the beach for the first time, bicycles were not allowed, and made to put them on Parking. Sunbeds on the beach and almost everything was empty, apparently affected by the low season. Besides us there was only pairs of tourists, and all.

Price for 2 sunbeds we "grabbed" it seemed to me considerable (40,000 Dong) and no bargaining did not. Apparently it affected the off-season and a complete lack of tourists, as well as competition. The owners have sunbeds a few, but they, as I understand the agreement or in the relationship. The water was just excellent – warm and clean. The waves are small. In General, the beach is great, but the sand was very much beached shells, and a little away from the loungers on the shore accumulated the mountain of washed-up debris. As I said local, in high season it's all clean, but now there is no one and no reason to do it.

At other times arriving on the beach we just rode a little aside from this the beach and just down past the houses of local fishermen to the sea on bicycles. No renting bikes, no sun beds, no one at all and nothing but fishing boats.

Traditional Vietnamese boats on the beach not equipped

One day we decided to go boating on the river in Hoi an. Rather elderly Vietnamese imposed on us their services for 50 000 dongs. The price is small, but it is fully consistent with the boat on which we sailed.

Vietnamese was very interesting, fun and easily spoke English. As it turned out, the Vietnamese are the same problems as our older people. She told me that her son, a slacker who has no job and wants to work, and so she is forced to earn money carrying tourists down the river in his boat.

In the end I tired of the very slow pace, and grabbed an oar himself. And so we loved, it was especially interesting to chat with our hostess-captain.

As for the sights of Hoi an, something of utmost interest and fundamental we have not seen. All the monuments here are any rustic or something, don't know how to explain it, but not impressed.

Some kind of attraction
Military cemetery
Pedestrian bridge to the island of Anhui and floating figures

That really liked it, a trip to "Marble mountain" which we have organized for themselves. But this next story will be.

Glad you liked Saigon, I really like it too. But I would be careful with recommendations about "least a week". Still, not everyone will like spending time in a noisy bustling city instead of the beach. Two full days for most of them will be enough, and those who love other people, large cities can linger a little longer. ...

About a week - I wrote that we would like there is so much to be. :) And of course, to each his own! But there are so many museums and the city itself is so interesting that walk-not to deregulate. Next we go to Vietnam no less than 3 weeks. You have a good photo, immediately reminded of our journey. Jane_M, we too were at the factory where they make fish sauce. Yes, the smell of it is still the same! But it is possible to buy in addition to sauce a lot of good and very tasty sun-dried local fish. It's in Fukuoka. And, by the way, Fukuoka is prohibited to take out this sauce. ...

He googled and found that the earlier airlines in Fukuoka was used ATR72 aircraft, where the Luggage area combined with a passenger. And when the bottles crashed, the cabin echoing the "mouthwatering aroma" best Fukuoka fish sauce :SUPER . And then it was forbidden to export. Actually, I always pour the sauce in plastic bottles, when being taken home. So safer and easier without glasses. ...

I didn't know about the true reasons for the ban! :) Now I know! And we are from Vietnam brought a local ground coffee and bought them special cups with lids and filters for brewing. Here, too, by the way, advice to those who are going to Vietnam and thinks that you can bring out there simply amazing coffee! I'm not a fan and not a coffee-drinker, but the Vietnamese coffee will never give up. :) ...
